Just received these pictures from Fabian Altahona / Africolombia.
My picò is almost done, I'm excited.
Master William Gutierrez painted it starting from an excpert from The Palm Wine Drinkard by Amos Tutuola, read it in my first post. It's not finished yet. I will have a subtitle on the top saying: "The Awakening of Sound". Fabian suggested it as I will bring on a piece of colombian culture and spread it somewhere else.
I find it awesome.
Also many thanks to Aurel / Palmwine records for taking the pictures. A curious case of homonymy.
I include also two pictures by Josh Weiss, DJ Gozar, who recently visited Barranquilla and took some very nice shots of picòs and replicas. Check out the whole serie here.

Wow! This is something I know nothing about! The artwork is excellent! This must be what I see in the imagery of the background here on Palm Wine? I'm guessing these picos are some kind of speaker cabinets or components of a sound system?
RispondiEliminaHey there! Thanks for your interest; yep the background is a picò soundsystem. I suggest you to check out Africolombia blog to find all the info you need: http://acbia.wordpress.com/picos-sound-system/
RispondiEliminaCheck out my own picò being shipped last week from Barranquilla to Milan:
